Did you know all this about plastic colorants?

Coloring agents are an essential part of the plastic manufacturing industry. The main purpose of coloring agents is to give different colors to manufactured plastic products. Epoxy resin is one of the most popular coloring agents, used for a variety of reasons.

Plastic colorants are created through a special curing technique, by changing liquid polyether into solids. Epoxies are used for different purposes, just like resins that are created through exposure to ultra violet rays, which are used in dentistry and fiber optics. Moreover, their use is also seen in the electronics industry, for making insulators, switchgear, transformers, and generators.

The colorants used by the plastic manufacturing industries are categorized into several types known as, organic and inorganic pigments and soluble dyes. Each category of colorants has different properties and characteristics.

The organic and inorganic colorants do not change its properties, when used for manufacturing different types of plastic goods.
However, this is totally different in the case of soluble dyes.

Now, let us take a detailed look at the different types of plastic colorants.

Organic pigments are made from oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, and sulphur. Additionally, bromine, barium, calcium, manganese, strontium, and chlorine are part of organic pigments. The nature of molecules of hydrogen, oxygen, bromine and other compounds is crystalline in nature. These molecules absorb light to produce color.

However, inorganic pigments are made from the integration of metallic elements or metalloids, which are combined with sulphur and oxygen. These molecules may or may not absorb light to produce color. The inorganic pigments must retain their original form in order to perform their function as a coloring agent, used in the plastic manufacturing industry.

Soluble dyes, when dissolved in plastics do not retain their crystalline properties. Dyes work on a molecular level and get completely dissolved in water. Just like inorganic pigments, dyes may or may not absorb light to produce color.
Colorants are manufactured in a powered form. Once they are shipped or transported to the plastic manufacturing companies, they are processed in order to enhance their quality.

Therefore, if you need these colorants for manufacturing different types of plastic goods, it is necessary to look for a reputed manufacturer, in order to get high quality colorants that will work best, in fulfilling your business objectives.
